Find out everything you need to know about death records

The most common type of death record is the death certificate. When someone dies and you need to go through probate, you must have a copy of the death certificate. This gives you access to the individual’s bank accounts and vehicles along with any property they owned. The coroner will fill out the death certificate and send a copy to the funeral home.

If you need an older copy, go through the Bureau of Vital Statistics. A death certificate lists the name and age of the individual along with when and where they died. You may see other information such as how much they weighed or how tall they were.
